Golcar Band Conductor:

Mr. Charles Hindmarsh


We are delighted to have appointted Charles Hindmarsh as the New Conductor for Golcar Band.
Charles is originally from Harrogate and began his musical career playing the violin in orchestras and  later played the Euphonium, Baritone, and Eb Tuba in concert and brass bands.
After studying music at University, he went on to play for a number of brass bands in the Yorkshire area including Harrogate Band, The Yorkshire Evening Post Band, Lindley Band and most recently, Garforth Brass.
Charles is a well-respected Conductor in Yorkshire and as well as conducting Golcar Band he also conducts Garforth Jubillee Brass Band and Summer Bridge and Dacre Silver Band.
Previous bands Charles has conducted are Knaresborough Silver Band,
Haworth Band and Yeadon Old Brass Band.
As well as playing conventional instruments, Charles is also known as
‘The Yorkshire Musical Saw Player’ and plays the  ‘musical saw’ in a range of events across the country and beyond. See his website at




Training Band Conductor:

Pete Strawson

Pete is a percussionist who studied Music at Salford University, where he gained a 1st, specialising in conducting under the tutorship of Professor David King and Dr Howard Evans. He was also the recipient of the Goff Richards Award for performance and, whilst a student there played for the Leyland Band, during which time they won the National Brass Band Finals at the Albert Hall in 2005.
He works as a peripatetic music teacher in Bradford and, following a 6 month spell with the Black Dyke Mills Band, is looking to focus more on conducting.

Pete has been a part of the conducting team for the National Methodist Youth Brass Band for the past 4 years, and is also conductor of Vintage Brass in Golcar.
"It is a priviledge to be the conductor of Golcar Training Band, I'm enjoying the challenge and fun involved in making music together.​ I'm looking forward to taking the band on tour to Tewkesbury this May"
